Salt Lake City, Utah - (KUTV) A woman is in custody after the car she was driving caught on fire following a high-speed chase with police earlier today.

At about 7:00 Tuesday morning, a Utah County Sheriff’s detective noticed a car driving through Orem and estimated to be traveling at least 120 miles per hour.

Though the detective lost sight of her at the Spanish Fork Main Street, another detective near Benjamin spotted her. A marked Utah County Sherriff’s vehicle took over the pursuit near Payson, but the car will would not stop.

Officers were able to set down spikes near Mona, and both tires on the driver’s side blew. Another set of spikes between Mona and Nephi cause one passenger tire to blow – but still the driver continued.

Finally, just south of Nephi, the car stopped and caught on fire. The driver got out of the car and began to run when police took her into custody.

Authorities are still trying to identify the woman and determine why she was running.
