Idaho Produces Many Peace Corps Volunteers

By KMVT News

Southern Idaho ( KIFI-TV ) Idaho is making a name for itself as one of the states with the highest number of Peace Corps volunteers.

The organization says for every 100-thousand people in the state, four people are serving worldwide.

Out of 50 states, Idaho comes in at number seven with the highest number of volunteers.

It's an agency that sends Americans to developing countries.

Volunteers have to be at least 18 years old to serve.

One recruiter says the 27 months of service can help people find jobs when they get back to the States.

"I definitely think it gives a college grad’s resume that edge over that job, not just because of what is on paper but the way it changes a person, as well," explains regional recruiter Maria Alejandra Garcia.

President John F. Kennedy established the organization.

More than 200-thousand American volunteers have served in 139 countries.
