Boise, Idaho ( KBOI ) In our state's capitol, a group of soldiers in Boise says goodbye to family and friends before heading to Afghanistan.
Idaho State Congresswoman Gayle Batt and several army leaders gave speeches to honor the 949th Transportation Detachment.
Family and friends of the 20 deploying soldiers came to show their loved ones they're behind them.
"We count heavily on the family support to make us successful, so you'll see about 200 people here to send off 20 soldiers, so that just shows how much support we have in the community," adds Capt. David Schorzman, 949th Transportation Department.
The group will leave from Boise Sunday morning and head to Fort Hood for 6 weeks of training before they deploy overseas. Their tour in Afghanistan will be nine months.
While they're over there, the group will be working to get supplies from one base to another.
