Nogales, Arizona (CNN) U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson visited Arizona Wednesday.

He, along with Governor Jan Brewer, toured a Nogales facility where hundreds of undocumented children are being held after crossing the border alone.

"The kids, while this is not an ideal situation, look as if they're being well taken care of under the circumstances. Governor Brewer and I spoke to a number of them ourselves to hear their stories to understand why they are here and the dangers of the journey that they took,” Johnson said.

The children were transferred to Arizona after Texas facilities became too crowded.

Johnson visited a Texas border facility last week.

Thousands of unaccompanied minors have been caught crossing into the U.S. since October - most from Central America.
