Kuna School Bus Driver On Leave In Kuna Following Fatal Accident

KUNA, Idaho (KBOI) -- The driver of a school bus that crashed in December resulting in the death of an 11-year-old student is on leave, the Kuna School District said Thursday.

This week, the Idaho Transportation Department said the the driver of the bus, Debra Boatwright failed to yield at a stop sign. The bus was then struck by a dump truck. Daniel Cook, died as a result of the impact.

No charges have been issued. A spokeswoman for the school district would not clarify whether Boatwright was being paid while on leave.

Here's the full statement from the Kuna School District:

"The Kuna Joint School District No. 3 has procedures regarding an investigation when an employee is involved in an accident with a district vehicle. Regarding the school bus accident involving employee Debra Boatwright, the District has implemented those procedures and will report to the State Department of Education as required by law. Pending the completed investigation, the employee is on leave."

"The Kuna School District is devastated by the loss of student, Daniel Cook and our deepest sympathies go out to the Cook family. The District continues to be concerned for students injured or impacted by the accident, for the bus driver, and of their families."
