LDS Church Launches New Website

Salt Lake City, Utah (KTVX) A church community known for its stance on same–sex marriage has launched a website preaching compassion for gays and lesbian.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints has unveiled the new website.

Right away, you know this is not a typical LDS church website.

"This is a dialogue that I feel very passionately about and one that I think we're not used to having in the church."

Two years in the making, the site showcases comments by LDS members attracted to those of the same sex, families, and by several members of the LDS quorum of the twelve.

Elder Quentin L. Cook says, "let's not have families exclude or be disrespectful of those who choose a different lifestyle."

The new website is getting a warm reception by church members and Utah's gay leaders. But church officials also make clear – while they are seeking a greater understanding of this issue..the website does not mean a change of doctrine.

"The doctrine of the church that sexual activity should only occur between a man and a woman who are married – has not changed and is not changing," adds Elder Dallin L. Oaks.
