Meridian Teen Arrested For Bomb Threats
Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A Meridian teenager has been arrested for making bomb threats earlier this week. Law enforcement hasn't released his name or specifics about how they found the teen.
But the 16 year old now faces a felony and some serious jail time.
It all started on Wednesday when a bomb threat was made at a Meridian High School. By Thursday, several high schools and businesses in the Treasure Valley and Twin Falls were investigating threats.
Wendy Johnson Assistant Superintendent of Kuna adds, "our high school recieved the call about 10:50 this morning saying there was a bomb in the school and they quickly hung up."
Four schools and several businesses were evacuated.
Boise High School Junior Melanie Overstreet adds, "we didnt really know what was going on until we heard there was a bomb threat and it's just kind of scary. Didnt think something like that would happen in Boise."
As of Friday, the toll was up to 17 threats in Ada County alone.
Lynn Hightower explains, "these types of theats cause a lot of anxiety, they may cause panic in some folks, they are certainly disconcerting to our community."
Investigators say the Meridian teen orchastrated the threats in an online gaming chat with another teen in Australia. The Aussie teen then made the actual calls. Police arrested the Meridian boy Friday night.
He is now charged with a felony.
Police say this was much more than a harmless prank. The Meridian Police Chief went as far as calling it domestic terrorist threats.
Hightower adds, "they will be held accountable. This is not taken lightly when you are responsible for something like this. Whether you are an adult or a juvenile."
