Sawtooth National Forest, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Mustang Fire has scorched more than 85–thousand acres and is only six percent contained.

The fire is burning on the Main Salmon River.

470 personnel are working on the lightning–caused fire.

The Mustang Fire will continue to back into the Salmon River drainage and east toward Spring Creek and north toward Montana. Over the next 24 hours, the fire is expected to reach Spring Creek.

The Salmon River remains open to rafting and jet boat recreationists, but all recreationists are required to stop at the North Fork Ranger Station.

CLOSURES: The Spring Creek Road (#038) is closed from the Salmon River Road (#030) to State Line Road (#044). State Line Road (#044) is closed to Horse Creek Road (#065). Horse Creek Road (#065) is closed from Spring Creek Road (#038) to the Gattin Ranch. Horse Creek Campground is closed.
