New Report On Deadly Arizona Wildfire That Killed 19 Firefighters
Prescott, Arizona (CNN) It was the deadliest fire in Arizona history, and one of the worst in the U.S. in 80 years.
Saturday investigators met with the families of 19 firefighters killed while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire in June.
Officials have spent more than three months trying to figure out what caused the tragedy that killed 19 elite Arizona firefighters.
According to the report, the firefighters were trying to get to a designated safe zone when a sudden change in wind caused the wildfire to split and spread dramatically - trapping all 19 of them.
The report also says fire crews suffered communication problems on the day the firefighters died.
The command center even lost contact with the team for about 30 minutes.
Because of those issues, some details about the firefighters' movements may never be known.
