One in 20 drivers on the phone
NATIONWIDE (CNN) It seems there is just no separating many of us from our phones... Even while we're driving.
According to a new study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one in 20 drivers can be seen at any given moment talking on a cell phone. And almost one in 100 can be spotted sending a text message or fidgeting with a mobile device. The NHTSA says that means 13.5 million drivers nationwide are on a hand–held phone at a typical moment during the day. The agency says at least 3,000 people died last year because of distracted driving. But it believes the number may actually be far higher. Comments ( |
