Over 30 States Alerted To Potentially Tainted Beef
San Francisco, California (CNN) The USDA now believes a beef recall is larger than first suspected.
The federal agency thinks the tainted beef from a California-based meat producer may have reached over 30 states and Guam.
It was thought the contaminated product had been contained to just six states.
Thousands of additional retailers, including large grocery chains, received the beef products from Rancho Feeding Corporation.
The company recalled more than eight million pounds of meat in mid-February.
The beef may have come from diseased cattle.
