Pharmacists In New Mexico Can Now Prescribe Anti-Overdose Drug

Albuquerque, New Mexico (CNN) New Mexico has become the first state to train its pharmacists to prescribe a powerful anti-overdose drug called Narcan.

Narcan is a brand name of Naloxone.

The potentially life-saving drug is designed to reverse the effects of heroin and prescription pain pill overdoses.

Health officials say they're hoping increased access to the drug will help save lives.
