IDAHO FALLS, Idaho ( KIFI-TV ) - Interstate 15 is closed from Idaho Falls to Roberts, Idaho State Police said Monday morning.
I-15 was closed in both directions around 9:15 a.m. due to high winds and reduced visibility from mileposts 119 to just beyond milepost 134.
The Idaho Transportation Department said northbound traffic is being detoured from I-15 to U.S. 20 in Idaho Falls and then from U.S. 20 in Rigby to Idaho 48, which runs to Roberts and I-15. Southbound traffic is being detoured from I-15 to Idaho 48 in Roberts and then from Idaho 48 to U.S. 20 in Rigby, then south to I-15 in Idaho Falls.
The department said the interstate will reopen Tuesday morning, when the wind is expected to subside.
The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning 11 p.m. Monday, forecasting southwest to west winds will increase to 35 mph, with gusts of 45 mph before noon, followed by a sharp increase to 40 to 50 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph possible Monday afternoon. An observation site in Roberts recorded winds around 55 mph Monday morning.
