Progress Made On Colorado Wildfire
Denver, Colorado (KUSA) Firefighters are making progress on a huge wildfire burning in Colorado.
The High Park Fire is now 20% contained — and that number is expected to increase throughout the day. Governor John Hickenlooper toured the fire zone today and offered words of reassurance. "I do want to emphasize, as I've done from the beginning of this fire, it's grown to be — were over 55,000 acres now — but we have public lands in Colorado over 23 million acres between the Forest Service and the DLM. Places where people from all over the world come to hike and recreate. We're talking about .2 percent of that having born. So this is something we've been through before. We know how to handle it," adds Hickenlooper. Officials say at least 112 homes were lost in the fire. The fire was first detected last Saturday and lightning is believed to be to blame. Comments ( |
