Seattle P.D. Turns Unwanted Guns Into Gift Cards
Seattle, Washington (KIRO) The Seattle Police Department started their first gun buyback program in 20 years Saturday morning.
Hundreds showed up too, the program is a $100,000 campaign to stop gun violence. They're turning unwanted guns into gift cards.
In 1992, the Seattle Police Department was not successful in the program. People turned in a little more than 11–hundred, which was only an estimated one percent of the guns in Seattle.
Police said if people turn in a handgun, shotgun or a rifle, the exchange will be a $100 gift card from places like amazon.com. For assault weapons, it would be a $200 gift card.
Once a gun is turned in, it becomes the Seattle Police Department's property, and they intend to destroy it.
