Sheriff: NV wildfire could have been worse
RENO, Nevada (KTVN) More than two dozens families near Reno, Nevada are now homeless after a raging wildfire consumed their houses.
The blaze started Thursday afternoon and has already burned nearly four-thousand acres of land. It's forced 10-thousand people to evacuate their homes. As of this morning, firefighters had the blaze about 50 percent contained. Local officials are praising their hard work. Sheriff Mike Haley, Washoe County, NV Sheriff's Office says, "the fire moved very, very fast. I would say from the observations that law enforcement had out there is that firefighters did an enormously good job in holding the number of damaged structures down to 26. It could have been much, much worse." Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has declared a state of emergency because of the fire. That will allow the county to apply for funds to help cover the costs of the damage. Comments ( |
