Stowaway Teen Who Survived Hawaii Flight Was Trying To See His Mother

By KMVT News

Santa Clara, California (CNN) We now know why a teen stowaway flew from California to Hawaii in an airliner's wheel well.

Authorities say he was trying to get to Somalia to see his mother.

We still don't know the teen's identity, but a classmate says he recently transferred from a Bay Area high school and was very quiet.

"I was really shocked, you know, and just really glad that he made it and he's alright right now, yeah. I'm just really worried about his family," says classmate Emanuell Golla.

The teen is now in the custody of child welfare services.

A spokeswoman for City of San Jose says criminal charges will not be filed against the teen.
