Fremont, California (CNN) An alleged drunk driver is facing vehicular homicide charges after a series of events that police say started at a Taco Bell drive thru.

Employees of the fast food restaurant called the police to report the man who seemed intoxicated.

They went to investigate... but did not make it in time.

"The employee at Taco Bell stated there was a patron in their drive-thru who appeared to be drunk, was fairly belligerent, and wanted us to be aware of it, because the employee thought that that individual was likely drunk and driving," explains Geneva Bosque, Fremont Police Department.

Officers say they followed the driver and saw that he struck a utility pole.

He ran away but was arrested shortly after.

As police investigated the scene, they realized that the driver had hit a man on a motorcycle.

That man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital for injuries he suffered from the crash.

Authorities say blood tests are being done to determine how intoxicated he was at the time of the accident.
