UT Referee Dies After Being Punched In Face
Salt Lake City, Utah ( KTXV ) A referee from a recreational soccer league in Utah has died from injuries he received in an assault during a recent game.
Salt Lake City Police say 46–year–old Ricardo Portillo was punched in the face by a 17–year–old player after a penalty call. It happened on this field in Taylorsville last weekend.
At first, it seemed Portillo only suffered minor injuries in the assault, but later at a hospital, doctors discovered he had serious internal head injuries.
He remained in critical condition for a week before passing away Saturday night.
The teen is currently in a juvenile detention facility and could now face additional charges.
