Wanted Man Leads Boise Police On 2 Hour Chase Through City
Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - Several Boise Police officers spent part of Monday afternoon tracking a suspected vehicle burglar after he struck a police officer with a vehicle. Authorities say they were called by a private security worker to help search for a man seen looking into car windows. It was thought he may be in the process of attempting to burglarize vehicles in a large parking lot of a retail center on the northwest corner of West Franklin Road and North Milwaukee street. The call for assistance was made around 2pm police say. The subject was not seen taking anything from parked cars but his behavior was considered suspicious. Officers soon found a young man matching the description of the suspicious subject and watched as he entered a car and sat in the passenger side of the vehicle.
A uniformed patrol officer walked up to the passenger side of the vehicle to speak with the subject, parking his marked patrol car just behind the vehicle the subject was sitting in. As the officer approached the car, the man quickly slid into the driver's seat and started the engine. The officer ran to the driver's side but because the car's windows were up and doors locked, the officer was unable to stop the subject who immediately began to back out of the parking space despite the patrol car behind him. The suspect vehicle backed out twice, hitting the patrol car each time and pushing the police unit back far enough so the suspect vehicle could pull away.
As the suspect backed out of the space, he also hit and ran over the officer's foot causing injury. The officer was treated on scene by Ada County Paramedics.
The suspect drove off at a high rate of speed out of the parking lot and onto West Emerald Street. Immediately several Boise Police officers and deputies from the Ada County Sheriff's Office responded and began searching for the suspect vehicle. Several minutes later, the vehicle was found abandoned in a parking lot off Emerald and North Ash Park Place. Officers began a foot search for the suspect that included looking into the front and back yards of homes along West Preece Drive. Shortly before 4:00 p.m., an officer spotted the suspect take off running east through a back yard of a home near Preece and North Frazier Place. The suspect ran to the back door of the residence but officers caught him and took him into custody.
Authorities later identified the suspect as Maxwell A. Dosh, 20 of Boise. He was charged with Battery on a Police Officer, Leaving the scene of an injury crash, Malicious Injury to Property, Resisting and obstructing officers and a probation Violation.
