Woman Presumed Dead; Man Still Missing After Avalanches

Snoqualmie Pass, Washington ( KIRO ) One woman has now been declared dead while a 60–year old man is still missing following a couple of avalanches.

Authorities say a pair of avalanches ripped through the mountains near Snoqualimie Pass in Washington State.

The sheriff's office told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Deborah Horne that three men started hiking Granite Mountain around 10 a.m.
Around noon, a massive avalanche came down and struck them.

A 60–year–old man, from the Kent area, was buried and the two others got out. One had a bruised shoulder and the other had a pulled hamstring.

"The avalanche carried him about 1,279 feet at about 53 miles an hour."

The search for the missing man was suspended indefinitely Saturday night because of poor weather in the area.
