Yarnell Fire Survivor Speaks On One Year Anniversary
Prescott, Arizona (CNN) It's been one year since a wildfire killed nearly all of an elite firefighting unit in Arizona.
The so-called Yarnell Fire, triggered by lightning in June 2013, took the lives of 19 Granite Mountain hotshot firefighters.
The lone survivor of the crew says he's still healing from the tragedy - but feels like he's been given a second chance.
"I'm happy that I get to, uh...to spend time with my daughter… You know, I'm 22. I have so much to learn and I don't want to put what I've been given to waste," Brendan McDonough explains.
Families of a dozen of the fallen firefighters have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the State of Arizona, seeking damages and an answer on how 19 lives were lost.
