Tax Credit Still Available
Thousands of Idaho residents who missed out on an IRS tax credit may still be in luck. Federal officials say people who are eligible for a federal earned income tax credit still can file claims for the last three years.
An estimated 52,000 Idahoans who are eligible for the credit missed out on about $88 million because they didn't file and could have.
It's meant to help the nation's working poor. Idaho is the sixth–worst state when it comes to eligible people who don't file for the credit. But the IRS is trying to change that by working with local businesses and organizations to educate people.
The credits could add up to an extra $4,300. The average is about $2,000.
