House introduces latest Idaho transportation bills

Boise, ID

BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ House members introduced two new bills to
boost revenue for transportation.

The measures cleared the House Revenue and Taxation Committee

One would charge an extra $10 on the state's 104,000 specialty
license plants, raising $1 million yearly.

The other would charge a 4 percent tax on rental cars, raising
about $1.3 million.

These are the latest in a series of bills that fall short of
Governor Butch Otter's original plan to raise $200 million annually
to address a forecasted roads-funding shortfall.

Lawmakers on the panel also revisited a plan that would shift
$22 million in existing tax revenue from tire and battery sales to
roads funding, pushing back its effective date to 2010.
