Ada, Boise eye site for shooting range
BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Ada County and Boise officials are searching
for the right spot to put a new, joint shooting range.
The Idaho Statesman reports that officials at Gowen Field have
offered to let the local law enforcement agencies use the Idaho
National Guard shooting range.
Idaho National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Tim Marsano says it
would be a good deal for the guard because anything that helps out
local law enforcement agencies is a good thing.
The shooting range at Gowen Field includes a high-tech indoor
simulator, mock town and outdoor range. But Boise Police Chief Mike
Masterson says his department is still trying to figure out the
most cost-effective solution for training. The range at Gowen Field
is a 45-minute drive from the department.
The range used by the Ada County Sheriff's Office for 14 years
was demolished last year to make room for landfill expansion.
