NAMPA, Idaho (AP) _ A Canyon County Commissioner arrested after
Boise airport security found a gun in his carry-on luggage is
headed to trial.

A district judge denied David Ferdinand's motion to have the
misdemeanor dismissed Wednesday, the Idaho Statesman reported.

Defense attorney David Leroy claims Ferdinand was unaware the
firearm was in his backpack when he passed through security at the
Boise airport Feb. 28, meaning he did not knowingly try to bring
the gun on board.

The judge scheduled Ferdinand's trial for July 16.

At the time of his arrest, Ferdinand was getting ready to board
a flight to Washington D.C. to attend the National Association of
Counties conference.

In police reports, Boise police investigators concluded that
Ferdinand made an honest mistake.
