Developer's Discount Could be Rolled Back
The House has unanimously voted to roll back a tax loophole that has allowed developers to pay pennies on some of Idaho's hottest properties.
The Senate and Governor Kempthorne still have to sign off on the deal that would repeal the so-called “developer's discount.”
The original exemption was passed in 2002 to keep farmers who subdivided their land from paying huge taxes, but it has also allowed others to benefit on land that is non-agricultural.
Ironically, Governor Kempthorne has also been getting a break on the 14 acres he owns in Valley County.
Under the new bill, farmers would still get a tax break.
