Water Fight Boiling Over; Idaho Power Threatens to Sue
Idaho Power executives say they will likely bring a lawsuit if the Idaho legislature passes an aquifer recharge bill.
House Speaker Bruce Newcomb proposed two bills concerning the issue last week; one of them passed the house on Friday.
He and other proponents want Snake River water diverted from hydroelectric dams to replenish the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer.
The bills came after the Idaho Attorney General said he thought the state could take more water from the Snake River.
Idaho Power officials say diverting the water will lead to higher bills for its more than 460,000 customers.
