David Bruce Bleak died Thursday at a hospital in Arco after fighting a long battle with illness. Bleak was born in Idaho Falls and enlisted in the army at 18. Military leaders say during the Korean War he killed two enemy combatants with his bare hands and deflected a grenade that landed near a comrade's helmet. He also is said to have carried a man to safety after being shot in the leg. For his courage he was awarded not only the Medal of Honor but a Purple Heart as well. Bleak died at the age of 74.
