An Idaho state senator's son has been arrested and another son cited for allegedly vandalizing two American flags dedicated to soldiers killed in Iraq.
Twenty-four-year-old Michael Burkett and his brother, 22-year-old Thomas Burkett, allegedly damaged the flags and flagpoles on the grounds of the state capitol early Sunday morning.
The two are sons of democratic state Senator Michael Burkett of Boise.
According to a police report one flagpole had been bent so the flag was lying the ground and the other had been bent and pulled out of the ground.
Lt. Ron Winegar with the Boise Police Department had this to say, “They are flags that are meant to honor our service men and women who gave their lives. Obviously this is the type of crime that evokes serious emotion in people when they hear about it.”
Michael Burkett has been charged with malicious injury to property, resisting arrest and obstructing officers.
Thomas Burkett was cited for malicious injury to property.
