Miles named to be new Nez Perce executive director

LAPWAI, Idaho (AP) _ The Nez Perce Tribe has a new executive
director.

Rebecca Miles is stepping down from her elected position on the
Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee to take over the post.

Miles, a Washington State University graduate, has occupied
several positions since 2004 on the executive committee, including
chairwoman.

The mother of two starts Monday in the new position.

The executive director is responsible for day-to-day management
of the tribe's government based in Lapwai on the Nez Perce
Reservation.

The reservation includes parts of Nez Perce, Lewis, Idaho, and
Clearwater counties in northcentral Idaho, with a total land area
is 1,195 square miles.

The reservation's population is about 18,000 people.
