BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Gov. C.L. ``Butch'' Otter and Idaho
Department of Parks and Recreation Director Nancy Merrill plan to
meet with reporters Friday morning to discuss the future of her

Their press conference, set for 11 a.m., comes just four days
after Otter's budget chief said Merrill was making headway on
finding ways to save $4.5 million annually, improve customer
service _ and keep parks open.

Finance Director Wayne Hammon suggested Monday that her efforts
could result in Otter altering his plan to eliminate the agency,
shift oversight of 30 state parks to the Department of Lands and
sell Parks and Recreation headquarters east of Boise.

Details about what Otter and Merrill will divulge Friday haven't
been released.

But according to a press release from Otter's office, the
meeting will include ``an important announcement about Parks and
Recreation management.''
