MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) _ A 38-year-old Deary-area man has been
charged with first-degree attempted murder after prosecutors say he
tried to shoot his wife.
Matthew Stephen Ortman was charged in 2nd District Court on
Wednesday. He denied the charges and is scheduled for a preliminary
hearing later this month.
Investigators say Shelly Ortman called the sheriff's office on
Wednesday, saying her husband was trying to kill her. Deputy
Sheriff Ryan Weaver says when emergency workers arrived on the
scene, they treated the woman for injuries but she was not struck
by gunfire.
Investigators say in court documents that Matthew Ortman became
angry after Shelly Ortman said she didn't love him anymore, and
that he fired several shots and struck her.
