MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) _ A murder convict awaiting a court-ordered
retrial has filed a tort claim against Latah County and law
enforcement officials.
David Meister was convicted and sentenced to life without parole
in 2003 for the murder of Tonya Hart.
Meister has maintained his innocence and is due for a retrial
scheduled in October. The Idaho Supreme Court ordered in February
that he must be retried because the judge in the 2003 case erred
when he refused to allow evidence that someone else might have
pulled the trigger on the gun that killed Hart.
The Lewiston Tribune reports that Meister's claim filed in the
Latah County Courthouse contends he has endured ``seven years of
wrongful incarceration.'' The claim seeks an unspecified amount of
money.
