Crews Poised to Begin Excavation for Capitol's Two New Wings
Digging the two big holes that will eventually hold the underground wings at the state Capitol starts Thursday.
Gary Daniel, Capitol Commission spokesman, says the excavating will last 18 days.
He says most of the digging will be done at night to reduce traffic problems.
Crews have already done some digging to remove existing wells and inspect side entrances.
Officials broke ground in April for the 2 1/2 year, $120 million remodeling and expansion of the 100-year-old Capitol.
Work is scheduled to be done in time for the 2010 Legislature.
