COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho (AP) _ Police say a Coeur d'Alene infant hospitalized with head injuries is breathing on his own after being removed from a ventilator.
Coeur d'Alene Police spokeswoman Sgt. Christie Wood says Noah Blanchard suffered serious head injuries on July 24 and will remain hospitalized for quite some time.
The boy's father, 19-year-old James D. Blanchard, is charged
with felony injury to a child. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports the 1-month-old is in the custody of the state.
Kootenai County Deputy Prosecutor David Robins said in court
last week that witnesses would be able to describe at trial that Blanchard had shaken the baby, forced him to eat, tossed him across
a room and slammed him down in a crib.
Members of Blanchard's family say he would never have hurt his son.
