Boise Cascade shutting down Emmett plant
BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Boise Cascade has announced plans to shut
down its laminated beam manufacturing operation in Emmett. Company spokesman John Sahlberg told the Idaho Statesman Wednesday that the plant will cease operations in June and will be closed for the foreseeable future. He says a collapse in the housing market is the reason for the closure, which affects 40 employees. The company made the announcement a day after saying it had purchased a newer, more efficient plant in Homedale that makes some of the same products. The job cuts in Emmett come on top of more than 500 employees who will lose their jobs in June when the XL Four Star Beef plant closes in nearby Nampa. Sahlberg said the company plants to negotiate with the carpenters' union on a severance package. Comments ( |
