CHALLIS, IDAHO, On January 15, 2012, at approximately 2:14 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle fatality crash on State Highway 75 at the US Highway 93 Junction near Challis.
Adam Smith, 18, from Challis, Idaho was traveling west on State Highway 75 in a 1985 Chevy S10 pickup when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the US 93 Junction. Smith was hit on the driver's side by a white Ford F350 traveling south on US Highway 93, being driven by Ronald A. Rembelski, 42, from Challis, Idaho. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Rembelski and his two passengers were transported to Steelhead Memorial in Salmon, Idaho where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
Idaho State Police Trooper Joseph Lewis and Senior Trooper Chris Lenda are investigating the crash and were assisted by Custer County Deputies Levi Maydole, Shawn Kramer and the Challis Fire and EMS.
