Former St. Anthony mayor sentenced for rape
REXBURG, Idaho (AP) _ A former southeastern Idaho mayor and city
councilman has been sentenced to at least three years in prison for the statutory rape of a 16-year-old girl. The Standard Journal reports 63-year-old Roy W. Parker of St. Anthony was sentenced Tuesday to three to 12 years in prison. District Judge Greg Moeller also levied a $5,000 fine against Parker, who was convicted in October after a three-day jury trial. Parker's attorney, John Cutler, sought a suspended sentence or house arrest along with counseling. Deputy Fremont County Prosecutor Gilman Gardner argued Parker took advantage of a young woman entrusted to his care and that the girl endured pressure to change her testimony. Parker was mayor of St. Anthony from 1994-97. He has previous convictions on battery and drug charges. Comments ( |
