Governor Otter on Idaho's primary

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Idaho lawmakers are looking at moving the state's primary election from may to august.

But Governor "Butch" Otter told KMVT he rather leave the primary in May.

He believes there won't be as much voter participation late in the summer with school beginning and people coming home from vacation.

Governor Otter says, "I had been a candidate when we did have the august primary and quite frankly, I prefer it leave it in may where it is. If the legislature passes it with good reason, then I think we'll probably consider that."

Another bill announced last week would actually eliminate the state's presidential primary in May.

Idaho Secretary of State Ben Ysursa says this contest no longer serves a purpose since both political parties now choose their presidential delegates by caucus.
