BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ The Idaho unemployment rate has increased
for the first time since February.
The state Department of Labor says Idaho's unemployment rate
edged up to 8.9 percent during the month of August, a slight
increase from 8.8 percent in July.
The agency released the latest unemployment numbers on Friday.
Congress in late July extended benefits for the long-term
unemployed, which included 8,000 people in Idaho, but state
officials say more jobless workers got discouraged at their job
prospects and dropped out of the labor force.
