BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ The attorney for a southwest Idaho man who
pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a minor is blaming synthetic
marijuana for his client's actions.
Forty-seven-year-old Robert Stewart, of Star, pleaded guilty to
lewd conduct with a minor under age 16 in 3rd District Court
Tuesday.
The Idaho Statesman reports Stewart picked up the 14-year-old
girl in September after smoking Spice, a chemical marijuana
substitute that was legal at the time. Spice is now under a
temporary ban in Idaho.
Defense attorney John Sutton says the encounter wouldn't have
happened if Stewart had not been smoking Spice.
Prosecutors will make a sentence recommendation after Stewart
completes a psychosexual evaluation.
He faces up to life in prison and is scheduled for sentencing
April 25.
Court records state Stewart believed the girl was 18.
