Moscow Idaho police release more information following shooting/suicide
MOSCOW, IDAHO (KMVT-TV) The Moscow Police Department identified Boise-native Cathryn Benoit as the 22-year-old University of Idaho graduate student who was gunned down at her home near the University of Idaho Monday by a former assistant professor in her department.
During a news conference Tuesday, Moscow Police Lt. David Lehmitz, said 31 year old Ernesto A. Bustamante, who had been an assistant professor of psychology and communication studies at the UI until Friday, was believed to have shot Benoit multiple times outside her home with a .45-caliber handgun around 8:40 p.m. Monday.
Benoit’s roommate was inside the residence at the time of the shooting, Lehmitz said, but was too shook up to provide a lot of details of the incident at this time.
He also said Benoit and Bustamante may have had a previous relationship, though the exact nature was not yet known.
