RUPERT – Mervin Vernon Ling, age 101, of Rupert, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Warren House in Burley.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1911, in Worthington, Minnesota, the son of Robert Emanuel and Ruth Leona Moar Ling. He graduated from Rupert High School in 1927. Following his graduation, he attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch in Pocatello. Mervin married Delphia Rogers on Oct. 26, 1929, in Jerome, Idaho. Together, they had three children, Bernice, Roger and Linda.

Mervin was a manager of a Safeway Store in Williams, California, farmed, was a wool grower and owned and operated KWEI radio station in Weiser, Idaho, KACI in The Dalles, Oregon, and KAYT in Rupert. He was a former member of Rotary International, the Rupert Elks Lodge and the Rupert Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Rupert United Methodist Church. Mervin enjoyed photography and playing golf, and was a ham radio operator.

He is survived by his children, Nita Bernice Rollheiser of Pocatello, Roger D. (Judy) Ling of Rupert, and Linda V. (Dave) Duke of Eagle Creek, Oregon; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delphia, who died on Feb. 24, 2004; two sisters, Naomi Wolff and Ruth Ling; one brother, Lloyd Ling; a son-in-law, Frank Rollheiser; one great-grandson, Dalton Ling; and a great-granddaughter, Bernadette Henscheid.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday (this afternoon), Nov. 15, at the Rupert Cemetery with the Rev. Pamela Meese officiating.

Friends and family may call from 1 until 2:15 p.m. today prior to the graveside service at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Rupert United Methodist Church.
