Gooding, Idaho - Richard “Dick” J. Cole, 89, a resident of Gooding, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the North Canyon Medical Center in Gooding.
Dick was born on January 22, 1923 in Filer, Idaho, the son of Walter J. And Ruth Dryden Cole. He was raised and educated in Filer and Jerome, graduating from Jerome High School in 1941 where he enjoyed playing football and boxing.
Dick married Donna J. “Jo” Lanning from Shoshone on June 9, 1943 in Elko, Nevada. They were married for 62 years and together they had 6 children.
In 1954 the couple moved to Conda, Idaho where Dick was employed with MK and later Beker Industries. Dick and Jo were the last couple to leave the little community of Conda when it closed in 1984. They then moved to Gooding, Idaho where they spent the last years of their lives. Jo preceded him in death on June 1, 2005.
Dick loved fishing, camping, raising beautiful gardens and watching Boise State Football. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.
He is survived by: his son, Stanley Richard and wife, Mary Cole of Gooding; three daughters, Donna and husband, Bryant Smith of Soda Springs, Idaho, Judy and husband, Gator Wilmut and Cinda and husband, Dan McCormick, all of Lewiston, Idaho; his brother Gary and wife, Kay Cole of Penrose, Colorado; and sister, Sharon and husband, Ed Ballerstein of Gooding, Idaho; 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Walter J. And Ruth Dryden Cole; his brother, Lowell Cole, sister, Eileen Pendergrast, and infant son, Richard J. Cole.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Gooding Senior Center in Gooding. A private inurnment will take place at the Shoshone Cemetery in Shoshone.
Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.
