Wendell, Idaho - Bud Bitterli, 88, died on Monday, January 7, 2013. He was born in Filer, Idaho on January 19, 1924 to Edwin and Bessie Bitterli. He attended his first 8 years of school at West Point, finishing his final 4 years of school at Wendell High School, graduating in 1942. Bud worked many odd jobs throughout the Northwest, finally settling in Wendell to farm with his father. In 1956 he married Sarah Lorraine Crawford from Wendell. Bud and Sarah started Bud’s Conoco, a small service station in Wendell. He later provided space for his sister and brother-in-law, Bob and Darline Simerly, to operate a small convenience store in the back of the service station. Bud and Sarah adopted five children, two from Korea, two from Germany and one from Boise. Bud spent most of his life in Wendell serving his community as a city council member, a Volunteer Fire Fighter for nearly 50 years, an active member of Wendell United Methodist Church and owned and operated his own towing service. Together Bud and Sarah enjoyed many summers working at Sawtooth Church Camp. In 1997 his wife, Sarah, passed away from ALS. Bud later met and married Alma Strong in 2000. They continued to be active in the Wendell United Methodist Church and Senior Citizen Center.
Bud is survived by his wife, Alma; his children: Robert (Judith) Bitterli, Racheal (Brian) Summers, Ruth (Dale) Pomrenke and Mark (Jerri Ann) Bitterli; a sister: Pauline Ross; his grandchildren: Jake Reyment, Erica and Evan Summers, Kim DePew and Sarah Donohue, Logan Ann and Trenton Bitterli; his great grandchildren: Kaysar and Keyan DePew. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dale Bitterli, his wife Sarah, his twin sisters, his sister Darline and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Wendell.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sawtooth Camp, % Dave Hargreaves, 15491 Lakeshore Dr., Caldwell, Idaho, 83607, in lieu of flowers.
