Paul, Idaho – Wallace Roy “Wally” Peterman, age 81, of Paul, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise due to complications following heart surgery.
Wally was born on July 10, 1931, in Rupert, Idaho, the son of Cash Adrian and Elizabeth Almeta (Brown) Peterman. He was welcomed to the family by two sisters, Helen and Bernice. Wally lived all of his life in Minidoka County, attending school at Pioneer and graduating from Rupert High School in 1949. He married Hazel Thurston, of Burley, in April 1952. They began farming in the Rupert area and in 1960, purchased a farm in Paul where they have since resided. They were blessed with four children, Denise, Dirk, Brett and Von.
Wally was very active in sports having played basketball and football for Rupert High School. He coached many little league baseball teams and was a high school basketball referee. Those who knew him will remember him as an honest, hardworking man and a good friend.
Wally was an active member of the LDS Church and had served as ward clerk, as an assistant in the High Priest Group, Primary teacher, and temple worker.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Peterman of Paul; his children, Denise (Fred) Nazarenus of Denver, Colo., Brett Peterman of Paul, and Von (Amber) Peterman of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Derek, Jeremiah, Hana, Tatum, Cash, Crew and Scarlet Peterman; seven great-grandchildren, Preston, Kylie, Zander, Caleb, Chase, MiaBella, and Maraelee Peterman; and one sister, Helen (Lyle) Vanderhoef of Boise.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dirk Peterman; and a sister, Bernice Dominguez.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Paul LDS Stake Center, 424 W. Ellis St., in Paul, with Bishop Shannon Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Monday at the church.
