Twin Falls, Idaho - Virginia Orndorff Cummins, 85, of Twin Falls, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at Quail Ridge Care Center in Pocatello.
Virginia was born in Aurora, Nebraska on May 11, 1927. She left Nebraska on June 12, 1936 and arrived in Twin Falls, Idaho on June 16, 1936
She worked for the railroad in 1944 and 1945 during World War II. Virginia married Wayne Steele in Twin Falls in 1947, where Teri was born. She moved to Sacramento, California in 1952 where David was born and moved back to Twin Falls in 1960.
Virginia and Wayne were divorced in 1964 and she married Victor Cummins in 1965.
Between 1964 and 1988 she worked for the Twin Falls Police Department as a secretary; Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Department in the drivers license bureau and as a rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service, where she retired from in 1988.
From 1988 Vic and Virginia were actively involved in AARP’s 55 Alive defensive driving program and were regular “snow birds”, going to Arizona every winter. They were very involved in their children’s’ lives until Vic’s passing from cancer in 1993. Virginia continued as a Regional Director and Instructor with 55 Alive until she retired from instructing in the late 1990s.
Virginia continued to be active in her children’s lives until her health forced her to be homebound. Health issues forced her to move to Pocatello in May of 2012 to an assisted living facility until her passing.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Teri Rodriguez (Frank) of Pocatello, Idaho, her son David Steele (Noi) of Oregon City, Oregon, her step son Ken Cummins (Helen) of Kimberly, Idaho, her step daughter Vicki Schab (Dan) of Twin Falls, Idaho; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Virginia is the last of the Orndorff children.
Virginia’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, 2466 Addison Ave East in Twin Falls with Pastor Dale Metzger officiating. Entombment will follow at the Swan Lake Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park. A viewing for family and friends will take place from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the services on Saturday at Reynolds Funeral Chapel.
Services are under the direction of Trent Stimpson and staff at Reynolds Funeral Chapel.
