Rupert, Idaho – Steven K. Antone Jr., passed away peacefully having been tended by his loving wife and children, on March 18, 2013, after a difficult battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was just 55.
Born on June 18, 1957, he blessed the lives of Helen and Steve Antone Sr., and sister, Kathleen McKevitt.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Jensen) Antone; his children, Steven Brenner Antone, Marley Kae Antone, Jara Hatfield (Brandon), and Amber Smith; his grandkids, Canyon and Kinlee Hatfield, and Saylor Smith; his loving sister, Kathleen McKevitt; cousins, William (Steph) Hedrick and Thomas (Jan) Hedrick; his father, Steve Antone, Sr. (Diane); his mother-in- law, Sherrel Taylor Jensen; his father-in-law, Dick Jensen (Sharon); and his in-laws, Shelley (Steve) Jones, and Shane (Heather) Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Helen Antone; Dot and Elwood Hedrick; and his Nana.
Steve was an avid golfer with a natural swing and talent evident in his son, Brenner. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spent time outdoors with family and friends. As a youth, Steve was described as graceful on the hill. He taught his children to ski and enjoyed many ski trips with them.
Steve graduated from Minico High School in 1975, and was a member of the Minico High School Golf Team. He met the love of his life, Sheila Jensen, and they married in 1985. After farming for 20 years, he became the assistant superintendent at The Rupert Country Club and maintained the golf course to perfection, known for his passion and dedication, never having missed a day. His many friends supported him throughout his life – especially when he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in 2011.
The family expresses gratitude again to this great community. A special thanks to Minidoka Home Health and Hospice and MIA-POW for their constant loving support.
Along with his beautiful smile, Steve will be remembered for his quick witted sense of humor, his deep infectious belly laugh, and his genuine honesty which gained the respect of all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley. A luncheon for family and friends will follow from 1 until 4 p.m. at the Rupert Elks, 85 S. 200 W., of Rupert.
Steve asked that in Lieu of flowers, please give to your local charities. A Steve Antone Memorial Golf Scholarship Fund has been set up at The Rupert Country Club.
