Jerome, Idaho - Bessie A. Thompson Smith was born Aug. 4, 1917 to Samuel and Elizabeth Welch in Filer Idaho. She died Friday, May 17, 2013 at Ashley Manor in Jerome.
Bessie attended schools in the Twin Falls area and graduated from Twin Falls High School.
On June 25, 1937 she married John LeRoy (Roy) Thompson.
In Feb. 1945 she joined the army medical corp. and was discharged in May 1946. After leaving the army Bessie attended Twin Falls Business College, where she studied accounting and business. Bessie worked for Volco Builders Supply in Jerome for approx. 25 years and retired in the late 1970’s.
Bessie lived on farms in the Jerome and Gooding area until 1975 when she moved to Jerome following Roy’s death.
Bessie is survived by her children LeRoy M. Thompson (Donna) Boise ID, Roger B. Thompson (Barbara) Palisades WA, Melissa Boesiger (Steve) Gooding ID, and Robert (Rick) C. Thompson (Lisa) Twin Falls ID, 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Maureen Adams, Jerome ID.
Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Jo Wilson.
On Aug. 19, 1976 she married Everet Smith of Jerome ID. He died in Sept 1988. He is survived by 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Bessie was a member of the Jerome First Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Demaray’s Jerome Memorial Chapel, 3rd and Fillmore. Burial will follow at the Jerome Cemetery.
The family suggests donations be made to a favorite charity or to Hospice Visions, 1770 Park View Dr., Twin Falls, ID 83301, please reference Bessie Smith Memorial.
